Saturday, May 1st, 2004A day at home... washing and other domestics. It rains on and off... in the breaks I sneak out to get the odd purchase. Cold, wet and windy... Somehow this feels all rather novel, as though this combination has not happened for a long time

Friday, April 30th, 2004Finally... I get the exam feedback written up. Did it by heading over to the domed reading room at the State LIbrary. Reduce the distractions. It works! I should use this trick more often. Spend the rest of the time basking in the glow of having done something... and thus falling behind again.

Thursday, April 29th, 2004Rhonda's back, swearing she'll be taking things very carefully. Good to have her back, and see her well. Kat Mew (Yaaah!) drops by and gives her usually H&G talk. She's doing some interesting touch screen work down at ACMI at the moment. Then the regular double barreled MA discussions. Make a couple of breakthroughs with the coursework kids... which is a good thing. Still my brain aches at the end of it all.

Wednesday, April 28th, 2004Lazy morning at home, then a leisurely breakfast in the Botanical Gardens. I feel positively decadent. I could get rather used to it. After that it turns into a standard crazy AIM day. Oddly, there is a grand fireworks show from the roof of one of the apartment towers right next to us. It's has an odd, "are you sure this is legal?" feel to it, which is rather cool. Apparently, cars were stopping in the middle of the street to watch.

Tuesday, April 27th, 2004.Morning meeting about AIM website presence in the RMIT official web presence. Now children, let's not have anything different, okay? Afternoon, it over to the new offices of VISC... Yes, Gippsland has finally caught up with me. The funding for the next year is approved, and Kelvin lays out his plan for the year. It turns out to be surprisingly little work for me... and there's some money! Almost exactly what I hoped for. Yet some part of me feels this isn't enough, and that I should somehow be doing more for the schools out there. Hmmm... I need to beat that part of me silent with a very large stick... but I don't think I will be able to do that.

Monday, April 26th, 2004Introduce the kids to multiplayer gaming. Run them through Return to Wolfenstein, then Unreal Tournament 2003. I get about eight people into virtual space, and try to control all those itchy trigger fingers. It is happy bedlam. I rather enjoy seeing the special jumping dance performed by grim German and American soldiers at the cable car station. Finally after everyone has had chance to try out the spaces and get familiar with the movements, I take the muzzles off and the shooting starts. Within minutes, the boisterous males engage loudly in battle, while almost all the more reflective females back away slowly to the other side of the studio to eat lunch and talk. Hmmm... Afternoon, and we pitch the upcoming HOP project to the group. It seems to go over okay, though there are still great gaps in our understanding of what is actually going to happen. But then that's half the fun of it, right?

Sunday, April 25th, 2004I wake at sunrise to the muted sound of trumpets and large choirs. I grope for the alarm, but then realise the sound is come from outside. Ah! The dawn service at the Shrine for Anzac Day. The Shrine is close... but it shouldn't be that close. That must be some crowd out there. (Later reports say 15,000 people attend the service) I trot done to the Shrine not long afterwards myself. For most of the morning I patrol up and down St Kilda road following the parades. I try to put my newly researched knowledge about Army organisational structure to use... but it doesn't help. Too many numbers - 33rd Battery, 18th Battalion, 11th Division of the 1st Army? I take heaps of pictures so I can decipher things later...
